Gifted & Talented
Hello and Welcome to the Gifted & Talented Website!
My name is Lacy Krakow and I am the Goshen County District Gifted & Talented Coordinator. I began this position in August 2024 and have recently transitioned from a half-time position to a full-time position.
I am in my 26th year in education with time spent teaching 7-12 mathematics and working for the Wyoming Department of Education on the Hathaway Scholarship & Junior ACT Legislation. For the past twenty years I have been a college professor teaching mathematics and education courses for several colleges across the United States.
I have enjoyed getting to work with Gifted & Talented students throughout the district the past two years and look forward to continuing to work with them in future years.
Please feel free to reach out via email, phone, or text message and I will be glad to answer any questions that you have. As I am not in the office on a regular basis, an email or phone/text to my cell phone will provide you with the quickest response time. Do know that I am not able to answer any personal questions via text message.
Below are the steps for determining Gifted & Talented Services:
Gifted & Talented Initial Screening: Data from Spring district testing (AimsWebb, Map, Star) are evaluated. Students who score in the 90th percentile in two categories on the same assessment or in the 95th percentile or above in one category qualify for secondary screening.
Gifted & Talented Final Screening: If students met the initial screening above, parents & students are notified by email. These students will have the option to take a cognitive ability assessment (we are currently utilizing the NNAT3). Any student who scores in the 90th percentile or above on this assessment will qualify for the Gifted & Talented Program.
Students not meeting Initial Screening, but interested in the GT Program: If a parent, teacher, or student feels that a student would qualify for the Gifted & Talented Program, however, the student did not meet the initial requirement, there is a referral form (along with referral process).
Withdraw Process: If a student begins in the Gifted & Talented Program and finds that it is not a good fit or that they are not able to keep up with schoolwork, they are able to withdraw from the program on a temporary or permanent basis.
Again, please reach out via email, call, or text with any questions that you have. I look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Lacy J. Krakow

"High achieving and gifted learners have different motivations, abilities and focuses. While the two share many characteristics, gifted does not necessarily mean high achieving, and a high achiever may not be gifted. High-achieving students, knowing what it takes to succeed, are willing to put in the time and effort necessary to be successful. A gifted student, on the other hand, might demonstrate innate, advanced aptitude that may or may not translate into academic achievement."
